In
designing the 2004 Dream Home to represent the environment
meant using colors that come directly from nature. Earth….Wind….Fire….Water
Throughout the home the Interior Designer, Barbara Ellis ASID,
subtly introduced creatures of the natural environment, from
the predominant dragonflies to alligators, turtles, and man’s
best friend.
Sunken Parlor
The focal point of the room is the custom curved sectional that
was chosen to complement the concave arched window. The sectional
is upholstered in soft sage chenille with opulent silk throw
pillows in shades of amber and iridescent blue-green adorned
with dragonfly pillow jewelry. The natural wool area rug with
its subdued palette of amber, blue, and green has a subtle pattern
representing ripples on the surface of water. The cornice board
mimics the architectural detail in the fireplace. The iridescent
dragonfly silk drapery panels are attached to the cornice board
with beautiful blown glass globes from Africa. The large round
coffee table is has a warm tortoise finish. The dendrobium orchid
beaded floral arrangement created by the Interior Designer used
a beading technique called French Floral Beading. The accent
chairs opposite of the sectional are finished in platinum and
upholstered in iridescent blue-green silk taken from the toss
pillows on the sectional. The vase above the fireplace and glass
work on the wall are blown by local artist Beverly Albright of
Tropical Glass. The technique Ms. Albright uses to create these
graceful and flowing works of art is called free form blown glass.
The hand made beaded floral arrangement on the mantel is called
Spider Mums from the Chrysanthemum family. The candelabra floor
lamp illuminates shades of amber when lit and was made by the
same manufacturer that created the chandeliers in the dining
room and foyer.
